Austin Health does not encourage the use of family, friends or bilingual staff to act as interpreters in any healthcare conversation. Family and friends have an important role to play in supporting the patient.
Please note that while every effort is made to provide an on site interpreter, there may be times when there are no interpreters available. In this instance it is possible to use the telephone interpreting service, particularly for after hours requests. The telephone interpreting service can be called 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Interpreter services are provided free of charge to you.
