Clinical trials

Clinical trials are how we find out what truly works in healthcare.

They’re carefully designed studies that test new treatments, new ways of delivering care, and new ideas – always with patient safety at the centre.

At Austin Health, clinical trials give patients access to tomorrow’s treatments, today.
They offer options when choices may be limited, and help ensure the care we provide is backed by the strongest possible evidence.

Clinical trials don’t happen on their own. They’re made possible by Austin Health clinician scientists – doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and researchers – who ask important questions, challenge what we think we know, and work alongside patients to find better answers.

Is a clinical trial right for you?

Our researchers at Austin Health often run clinical trials that need participants from the local community.

All clinical trials conducted at Austin Health are done so under Australian and international guidelines for medical research under the approval of our Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC).

Austin Health has developed a resource to answer any questions patients might have about getting involved in a clinical trial. It’s always a good idea to speak to your treatment team to find out what your options are.
