About the Specialist Eating Disorders Service
The Specialist Eating Disorders Service (SEDS) provides assessment, treatment and support for children and young people experiencing an eating disorder. We work alongside mental health case managers and other healthcare providers to support recovery.
Our multidisciplinary team works with young people, families and carers to provide evidence-based care tailored to each person's needs. Treatment is delivered in partnership with families, carers, GPs, schools and other healthcare providers where appropriate.
Client care
We can support you with:
- assessment and diagnosis
- evidence-based psychological treatment
- family involvement and support throughout treatment
- mental health assessment
- dietetic assessment and nutrition support
- coordination of care with your GP, paediatrician, school and other healthcare providers
- consultation with other treating teams
- planning for your transition to other services when ongoing support is needed.
Our multidisciplinary team includes psychologists, mental health clinicians, dietitians, nurses, psychiatrists and allied health professionals with expertise in treating eating disorders.
Accessing our care
You may be able to access this service if you:
- are experiencing symptoms of an eating disorder
- need specialist treatment for an eating disorder
- are medically stable and suitable for community-based treatment
- live within the Austin Health Infant, Child and Youth Mental Health Service (ICYMHS) catchment area
- meet the eligibility criteria for the service.

Referrals to the Specialist Eating Disorders Service are coordinated through Austin Health's Mental Health Triage.
