About us
The Child Inpatient Unit is a 12-bed mental health unit for children under 13 from across Victoria.
We involve your whole family in your assessment and treatment. In some cases, your family members may be able to stay with you while you’re in hospital.
If your child is in the Emergency Department or admitted to hospital for medical care or surgery, and also has any emotional, psychological or psychiatric issues, they can also receive care from our Child & Youth Mental Health Service.
Our services
We provide the following services:
- Mmental health assessment, usually together with your family
- Intensive inpatient treatment within a safe environment

Children are usually referred from our community outpatient services.
