We manage patient information and medical records.
Our services
Health Information Services (HIS) manages all patient-related information and data for Austin Health.
Medical record management
We provide the following services:
- Manage scanned and historic paper-based medical records
- Manage paper and digital medical record forms
- Manage health information policies, such as patient privacy, patient registration, record access
- Produce Specialist Clinic letters and operation reports
- Manage Austin Health corporate records
- Maintain and support the entry and integrity of patient-related data on the hospitals’ systems
Information release
We provide the following services:
- Release information to external health professionals for ongoing patient care
- Release of information via the Family Violence and Child Information Sharing Scheme (FVISS/CISS)
- Access to records under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act
- Provide subpoenaed medical records to court
Clinical coding and patient data
We provide the following services:
- Code inpatient records using ICD-10-AM
- Provide casemix and DRG data to management and clinical units
- Audit casemix data
- Maintain data and reports of patient information to the Department of Health
- Report cancers to the Victorian Cancer Registry
