Weight loss surgery

Bariatric & metabolic surgery (for people living with obesity)

We provide surgery to treat obesity and complications from previous weight loss surgery.

About us

We are one of the largest bariatric surgery units in Australia. We have provided public weight loss surgery for many years.

Surgery is known to be effective for managing obesity as well as for improving - and sometimes reversing - other medical conditions that are related to your obesity.

In most cases, our patients undergo changes that positively transforms their lives.

You may be able to have surgery if previous, non-surgical attempts at weight loss haven't helped you.

You will be cared for by a team that includes nurses, dieticians, psychologists, anaesthetists, and other doctors, as well as our surgeons.

Surgery is performed by the Upper GI & weight loss surgery team.

Our services

We perform the following procedures:

  • Sleeve gastrectomy
  • Gastric bypass
  • Gastric banding
  • Complex revision surgery related to previous weight loss surgeries

Our clinics

We run the following clinics:

  • The Bariatric (Obesity and Weight Loss) Clinic runs every second Friday morning at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital. This is for both pre-surgery and post-surgery services.

Surgeons, nurses and dieticians are involved in your care. Long term follow up is encouraged to help you achieve success, with appointments offered on an ongoing basis to help you maintain your weight.
