Our Disability Action Plan (DAP) is in place for four years until the end of 2026.
Our Disability Action Plan is in place for four years until the end of 2026. Below is an overview of some of the progress made over the past 6 months, July 2025 to December 2025. It also outlines some of the key priorities for the last year of the current Disability Action Plan.

Priority Area 1: Inclusive
Key actions under Priority Area 1: Inclusive are:
- International Day of People with Disability celebrated with in person activities across all sites to launch the Disability Awareness training course.
- Over 300 Austin Health staff have completed the Disability Awareness training course.
- Austin Health Workplace Accessibility Policy has been approved and launched.
Priority Area 2: Accessible
Key actions under Priority Area 2: Accessible are:
- Scoping commenced to identify locations for multipurpose inclusion spaces, including sensory friendly spaces across Austin Health sites.
- Work has commenced on an accessible bathroom with adult-sized change table.
- The design phase of the website platform redesign has been completed and the project is on track.
Priority Area 3: Effective
Key actions under Priority Area 3: Effective are:
- Research was published to help us understand how the DLO program improves access to care.
- A patient information sheet to support patients transitioning to adult services has been published.
- Ability@Austin is expanding and will be offering supports to more NDIS participants in 2026.
Key priorities
Key priorities over the next 6 months are:
- We will launch and promote an employment network for staff who identify as having a disability.
- Explore and trial digital solutions to wayfinding.
- We will pilot an NDIS Rapid Response team to support NDIS participants to get home faster.
- Work with key stakeholders to improve the patient experience for those transitioning to adult services.
