What experience, qualifications and credentials do I need?

Your New Zealand nursing qualification is recognised here in Australia, so you'll just need:

  • AHPRA registration to work as a Registered Nurse at Austin Health which is quick and easy to do
  • A minimum 12 months Registered Nursing experience in New Zealand

Austin Health also provides specialty statewide services for all Victorians.

Intensive care nursing

Come and join our Intensive Care Unit.

ICU is a level 3 tertiary unit providing complex, multi-system support to over 2,200 patients per year with a broad range of clinical conditions including:

  • Liver transplant and liver failure
  • Bone marrow transplant
  • Cardiac surgery
  • Spinal injured patients
  • Neurosurgery
  • Thoracic surgery
  • General medical and surgical
  • Oncology

The department also offers outreach ward support services via the Medical Emergency Team (MET) and ICU Nurse Consultant Service.

Great opportunities exists for nurses with ICU experience who will be offered flexible work arrangements in our dynamic and friendly team.

Emergency nursing

Austin Health's Emergency Department is at the forefront of new and innovative models of emergency care and workforce and is a contemporary leader in Emergency Medicine education, research and quality.

We have a strong focus on nursing education and upskilling opportunities with both a Transition to Specialty Practice (TSP) program and Post Graduate certificate in critical care nursing offered each year. There is also a wide range of nursing and education supports with a substantial in-house education team which promotes clinical support and education on a shift-to-shift basis.

Our Mental Health division provides mental health assessment and interventions for people experiencing mental illness and their families.
