It’s Crazy Socks 4 Docs Day and our staff have shown their support by wearing colourful, mis-matched socks!
The day aims to break down the stigma around mental health in doctors.
Crazy Socks 4 Docs Day was founded by cardiologist Dr Geoff Toogood after his experiences with both depression and anxiety.
Every year an increasing number of health workers across Australia and around the world wear “crazy” socks, an important message of solidarity, support and hope.
Austin Health’s Chief Medical Officer Mark Lubliner (pictured standing on his head) says that Crazy Socks 4 Docs Day is tremendously important.
"It's an opportunity to take some time out and reflect on the mental health and wellbeing needs of our doctors.
"Our community looks to our doctors for compassionate and expert clinical care, and we all have a responsibility to care for our doctors so they can maintain this high quality of care for patients and their families.
"Doctors continue to play a key role in de-stigmatising mental illness, and Crazy Socks 4 Docs Day helps to reinforce these efforts amongst our colleagues and the community at large."
Austin Health has a range of programs and resources to support the mental health and wellbeing of our doctors. This includes a peer support program, mentoring program and access to Employee Assistance Program and more.
