Managing pain

We care for and treat people who have acute, complex and persistent pain during their hospital stay, especially after surgery.

About us

Pain is complex. We often need to involve a team of specialists from different areas to treat it effectively.

We aim to empower you to take control of your pain. We work with other departments including Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Pyschology to develop a plan to manage your pain.

We see around 2000 patients every year following surgery. We also care for inpatients with complex pain.

Our services

We provide the following services:

  • Every day we review and manage pain for all inpatients that are referred to our service, including:
    • People with pain from having surgery
    • People with acute pain from non-surgical causes
    • People with complex or persistent pain issues.
  • Access to a pain specialist and pharmacist, who are available to assist with your pain management plan
  • Treatment using a range of approaches, including medication and psychological therapies
