The Today Show tells June's story

COVID-19 patient, June Breheny, spent 32 nights in the Austin Health Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after contracting the disease at a local bar.

This week, the Today Show featured a story showing her journey and how the care from staff around Austin Health helped to ensure she was able to be discharged home.

June presented to the Emergency Department after going downhill very rapidly at home and was admitted straight to ICU where she spent almost five weeks. She was then transferred to Austin Health's COVID ward and finally to Royal Talbot for rehabilitation before going home last Wednesday morning.

Today spoke with Dr Caleb Fisher and Chynna Scott from ICU as well as showing her undergoing rehab with Exercise Physiologist, Wayne Tite, at the Talbot.

June's message for staff was simple, but heartfelt - "Thank you for everything," she said.

The Age also profiled ICU nurse, Emma Schroder in a piece that ran on their website on Monday 25 May.

Emma talked about how COVID-19 has impacted her and her family, how she feels coming work each day knowing she's looking after such sick patients and the things the team are doing to make sure they can manage their health as well as their patients'.
