My Health Record

Austin Health is participating in the My Health Record system

If you have My Health Record:

  • Austin Health clinicians can view your My Health Record in order to provide you with healthcare. Austin Health has strict policies and procedures to ensure that the privacy of your information is protected. 
  • Austin Health will upload inpatient discharge summaries to your My Health Record. This is an automatic upload. 

You have the right to withdraw your consent to have your Austin Health discharge summary uploaded to your My Health Record. If you do not consent to this please let us know at your next visit or call Health Information Services on 9496 5447.

Expansion of My Health Record at Austin Health

As of 11 May 2020, we’ve expanded My Health Record to include pathology and diagnostic imaging results for ED and inpatients.

Your results will be available in My Health Record:

  • 14 days after all testing is completed for pathology results.  
  • 21 days after all testing is completed for diagnostic imaging results.  

There are many benefits to this expansion which include: 

  • Reducing unnecessary tests and scans
  • Keeping track of tests you’ve had
  • Monitoring your results over time and improving access to your health information by your healthcare team.

What is My Health Record?

My Health Record is the name of the national digital health record system. It is an online summary of an individual's key health information. It bring together health information from health care providers, Medicare and the patient. Over time, it may include details on a patient's medical conditions, discharge / health summaries, medicines, allergies and test results.

Who has a My Health Record?

A My Health Record has been created for all Australians that did not opt out during the Australian Government's opt out period.

My Health Record needs to be activated

Before information can be added to a My Health Record it must first be activated. This can occur by an individual logging into their My Health Record or a registered health care provider searching for an individual's My Health Record.

You can cancel your My Health Record

Australians that have not opted out can still cancel their My Health Record at any time by:

What if you want a My Health Record in the future?

If an individual has opted out but changes their mind in the future, they can register for a My Health Record at any time at the above website.

Will My Health Record be useful for me?

My Health Record can help you by:

  • Keeping track of your own health history
  • Enabling other health professionals you authorise to see your key health summary so you don't have to repeat it or worry about forgetting important information, like medications 
  • Helping you and your healthcare providers to better manage complex or chronic conditions.

Privacy Controls within My Health Record

  • You can customise access to your My Health Record by setting access controls, including restricting who can see your information
  • You can restrict access to certain documents 
  • You can delete documents in My Health Record
  • You can see who has looked at your information and when
