Nursing postgraduate programs

At Austin Health we offer a range of postgraduate programs for nurses.

About our postgraduate nursing programs

Austin Health supports registered nurses to pursue postgraduate study as part of our commitment to high‑quality patient care, professional development, and advanced clinical practice.

Nurses undertaking postgraduate education receive structured clinical support within their specialty area, guided by experienced clinical teams and the Clinical Nursing Education Department. This model strengthens the integration of theory and practice while supporting safe, contemporary nursing care.

Postgraduate programs are tailored to specialty requirements and generally include a combination of online learning, face‑to‑face education, and supervised clinical experiences.

Areas of postgraduate study

Postgraduate programs are available across a broad range of nursing specialties, including:

  • Cancer nursing
  • Emergency nursing
  • Intensive care nursing
  • Paediatric nursing
  • Cardiac nursing
  • Gerontology nursing
  • Perioperative nursing
  • Neuroscience nursing
  • Renal nursing

These programs support nurses to develop advanced knowledge, clinical confidence, and specialty expertise within complex healthcare environments.

Postgraduate program availability and intakes

Postgraduate program availability can vary and is influenced by a number of factors. As a result, not all specialty areas may be offered.

Postgraduate programs that commence at the start of the year are typically advertised in August of the year prior. Where available, additional or mid‑year intakes are usually advertised around April. Please note that not all specialties will offer both start‑of‑year and mid‑year intakes.

We encourage nurses interested in postgraduate study to regularly check advertised opportunities, as available programs may change.
