About our Transition to Specialty Practice programs
Transition to Specialty Practice (TSP) programs support registered nurses who are new to, or seeking to consolidate skills within, a specialty clinical area. These programs are designed to build confidence, strengthen clinical knowledge, and support the transition into specialty nursing practice.
Participants are supported to:
- Develop specialty‑specific clinical knowledge
- Enhance assessment and practical skills
- Progress clinical decision‑making abilities
TSP programs provide the foundation for delivering safe, high‑quality, person‑centred care within specialty settings. They also support career development and provide a pathway toward ongoing professional development and postgraduate study.
Programs include a blend of online learning, face‑to‑face education, and supervised clinical experiences, helping bridge undergraduate preparation with specialty and postgraduate practice. Clinical assessments support the application of learning in the workplace.

Program availability and intakes
Program streams are offered based on a range of factors and may not be facilitated every intake. As a result, not all specialty areas will be available each year or at every start point.
Programs that commence at the start of the year are usually advertised around September of the year prior. Mid‑year programs, where offered, are generally advertised around April. Please note that not all streams offer both start‑of‑year and mid‑year intakes.
We encourage interested nurses to keep an eye on advertised opportunities, as available programs may vary.
