The NAAN Collaborative supports hospitals to implement antibiotic allergy programs and improve access to evidence-based assessment and testing.

It also supports the use of the International Network of Antibiotic Allergy Nations (iNAAN) data platform for data collection and program evaluation.

Check Again

The Check Again program is a Victorian statewide quality improvement initiative delivered through the NAAN Collaborative.

It supports health services to establish and scale penicillin allergy assessment pathways, helping more patients access appropriate antibiotics.

The program:

  • improves access to optimal antibiotics
  • reduces unnecessary use of broad-spectrum antimicrobials
  • improves patient safety and outcomes
  • strengthens antimicrobial stewardship practices

CAAR’s role in Check Again

The Centre for Antibiotic Allergy Research (CAAR) coordinates the Check Again program and supports participating health services by:

  • coordinating the statewide network
  • supporting implementation and clinician education
  • developing clinical tools and digital resources
  • facilitating data collection and evaluation
  • scaling antibiotic allergy programs across Victoria.

Program history

The Check Again Network was originally established and coordinated by Safer Care Victoria.
In July 2026, the program transitioned to Austin Health and CAAR, which now acts as the central coordinating hub for the statewide network, through the NAAN Collaborative.
