Data to decisions: Research in the age of AI

After nearly two weeks of inspiring sessions from 5 to 13 November 2025, ResearchFest wrapped up with big ideas and practical innovations under the theme Data to Decisions: Research in the Age of AI.

The program opened on Wednesday 5 November 2025 with a keynote by A/Prof Fiona Brownfoot and Dr Deb Karmakar from the University of Melbourne, exploring how emerging technologies are transforming care and research. This set the tone for discussions on ethics, governance and collaboration in an AI-driven future.

Highlights across the diverse program included the AI in Action at Austin Health panel, which examined how AI supports clinicians through predictive analytics and natural language processing, while stressing the importance of transparency and human oversight. The Quality Improvement session featured five outstanding projects, as did Allied Health in their Oral Poster Presentations.

A moving tribute honoured the late Professor Rinaldo Bellomo, celebrating his global impact and announcing the new Rinaldo Bellomo Fellowship to continue his legacy of curiosity and collaboration. Week two spotlighted craft groups, consumer partnerships and Grand Rounds, with awards recognising excellence in physiotherapy, nursing, allied health and early career researchers.

Congratulations to all presenters and winners for making ResearchFest 2025 a celebration of innovation, collaboration and patient-centred care.
