Debriefing
We consider timely debriefing to be essential as it enhances your ability to deal with ward events, as well as to challenge what happened during the shift, especially if there has been an incident involving significant injury or death.
Debriefing can reduce the possibility of psychological harm by talking about what has happened; facts can be reviewed, misconceptions corrected, as well as valid and fair observations taken on board.
Debrief sessions should occur weekly, restricted to the timeframe, and run during the overlap of the AM and PM shift between 13:30 and 15:30.
Education sessions
We frequently run education sessions and forums, either related to the specific ward or Nursing Grand Rounds.
If the in-service topic is appropriate and relevant, to your learning and clinical placement goals, you are most welcome to attend. Please inform the nurse in charge if you will be attending and/or leaving the ward.
