Transport & parking - Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital


Parking at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital is:

  • free for the first 30 minutes
  • $4 for between 30 and 60 minutes
  • $5 for between one and four hours
  • $7 for between four and six hours
  • $10 for six hours or more or for a lost ticket (maximum daily rate)

$5 flat rate (coin operated machine) for the Bell St car park

Concession rates may apply for some categories of patients and visitors. Veterans with White and Gold DVA cards are eligible for free parking. For more information, see Car parking concessions.

With the exclusion of the Bell St car park, the car parks run on an automated system. Remember to take the ticket with you as you will need to pay at one of the pay stations prior to exiting. Pay Station locations are marked on the parking tickets. No validation is available at point of exit.

There are designated patient drop off and pick up points located at Centaur Wing, North Wing, Flanders Wing, Radiation Oncology and Outpatients (Tobruk).

Staff shuttle bus

Austin Health runs a staff shuttle service between Austin Hospital and the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital.

The shuttle bus is for Austin Health staff. It is not a service for patients or for the general public. Bus drivers are permitted to allow patients to use the bus service only when space allows it and where patients can safely and independently travel without mobility devices or luggage. Please be aware of these restictions.

The service runs Monday - Friday (except public holidays) from 6.15am until 6.30pm. Passengers must wear a seat belt at all times whilst the buses are in motion, as per road safety legislation.

The staff shuttle bus stop at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital is located on the corner of Acacia Street and Boronia Streets or near the public car park in Bell Street.  At Austin Hospital, it is on the forecourt of the Austin Hospital Tower.

Ivanhoe train station, on the Hurstbridge Line, is a short bus journey away from the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital. Visitors catching a Hurstbridge line train to Ivanhoe station may catch the number 548 - Kew (Cotham Road) - La Trobe University Bundoora bus from the station to Waterdale Road.

Ivanhoe is classed as Zone One and Two, so if you are coming from the City you only need a 'Zone One' ticket or if you are coming from further out you only need a 'Zone Two' ticket.

    Route description:

    Departs from the terminus at the corner of Cotham Road and Burke Road Kew and runs via Burke Road, Whitehorse Road, Creswick Street, Kitchener Street, Wolseley Cresent, Gordon Street, Burke Road, McArthur Road, Lower Heidelberg Road, Marshall Street and Norman Street to the Ivanhoe Railway Station. It then runs via Norman Street, Seddon Street, Upper Heidelberg Road, St.Elmo Road, Banksia Street, Edwin Street, Altona Street, Waterdale Road, Southern Road, Waiora Road, Kingsbury Drive, Waterdale Road and Science Drive to the terminus at the LaTrobe University Bus Interchange. Some trips will go to Latrobe University via Macleod, (Springthorpe Boulevard). At the corner of Waiora Road and Kingsbury Drive the bus continues along Waiora Road to Springthorpe Boulevard, Main Drive, Latrobe Avenue and Ring Road to the University Interchange.

    On Saturdays all trips via Macleod (Springthorpe Boulevard) to Interchange only There is no service on Sundays or Public Holidays (except Labour Day and Cup Day). A special Christmas Holiday period timetable operates for 4 weeks beginning early January.

    Easter Saturday operates to the normal Saturday timetable.

    Departs from the terminus at Eltham Railway Station and runs via Main Road, Lower Plenty Road and Turnham Avenue to Rosanna Railway Station. It then runs via Turnham Avenue, Station Road, Rosanna Road, Darebin Street, Cape Street, Burgundy Street, Upper Heidelberg Road, Bell-Banksia Link, Bell Street, Cumberland Road, Boundary Road, Pascoe Street, Rhodes Parade, Plumpton Avenue, Wheatsheaf Road and Hartington Street to the terminus at Glenroy Railway Station.
