About us
Our department has close links with the Departments of Microbiology and Infection Prevention and Control at Austin Health.
Some of our infectious diseases physicians are also medical microbiologists.
We also work closely with government and with the University of Melbourne including the Doherty Institute.
We have a strong focus on research that helps to understand and combat infectious diseases and immunological issues relevant to the Australian community.

Our services
We provide the following services:
- A full range of inpatient and outpatient infectious diseases and immunological services to Austin Health as well as to a number of regional hospitals in Victoria
Our clinics
We run the following clinics:
- Infectious Diseases Clinic including tuberculosis and HIV
- Drug & Antibiotic Allergy Service
- Immunology outpatient service
- Travel and Tropical Medicine Clinic (for immunocompromised patients and Austin Health staff)
- Immunocompromised Host Clinic (which focuses on preventing infection for people who are immunocompromised, such as cancer and organ transplant patients)
- Infectious Diseases Hospital in the Home Clinic
Appointments can be arranged in person or via telehealth.
