Veteran Liaison provides a contact point for veteran enquiries and assistance within Austin Health. Throughout the year Veteran Liaison conducts observance services, tours for veteran groups, and various other activities for the Veteran community.
Commencing in 1995, the Veteran Liaison role continues to be a vital, highly committed service to the care of veterans and war widows throughout Austin Health and the wider community.
Two Veteran Liaison Officers, Robert Winther and Siobhan Hodgins, provide the service. The office is located at Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, but assists staff and patients across all three campuses within Austin Health. This arrangement is part of the commitment to Veteran Services for the Department of Veterans' Affairs. This wider commitment extends to other areas in the hospital that work closely with Veteran Liaison, in particular the Allied Health Departments.
The Veteran Liaison Office is directly involved with the Heidelberg Repat Veteran's Centre and the RSL Representative Offices, both of which are also located within Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital.
Additionally, a close and effective working relationship exists with Clinical Photography in the provision of the Veteran Liaison service, including images, posters, initiatives, and various printed material and design concepts.
