Horticultural therapy

Horticultural therapy uses gardening to improve people's physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

About us

Horticultural therapy is part of our Leisure & Creative Therapies service based at Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre.

What is horticultural therapy?

We work with patients with acquired brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, orthopaedic, amputation and neurological conditions in a rehabilitation setting using garden-related activities to work on physical, therapeutic and social rehabilitation goals.

The Horticultural Therapy Program is run in the picturesque therapeutic gardens of the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre every Tuesday.

Our services

We provide the following services:

  • Individual inpatient sessions
  • Group inpatient sessions

Session activities are tailored to suit the individual’s current abilities while also addressing rehabilitation goals.

Garden activities can include plant propagating, re-potting, planting, bonsai work and watering.

Sessions occur either outside in the gardens or in the indoor garden room overlooking the gardens.
