What we do

We provide healthcare and gender affirmation services to transgender, gender diverse and non-binary Victorians.

You can make an appointment with us if you want to start hormone therapy or are considering gender transition.

Our clinic staff are experts in transgender health. Many of them also work as researchers and educators to improve the health and wellbeing of trans people.

We work closely with the trans community, GPs, community organisations and researchers. Our service is part of a consortium with Your Community Health, Ballarat Community Health and Thorne Harbour Health. 

Our care is based on the informed consent model developed by the Equinox Gender Diverse Health Centre. 

What to expect

Once you fill in our referral form, one of our peer navigators will get in contact.

Our peer navigators are members of the trans and gender diverse community. They will speak to you about your healthcare needs and provide you with health resources.

Your appointment could be face to face, by telephone or telehealth.

You will then see one of our GPs who is experienced in transgender health. They can provide gender affirming hormone therapy (face to face or via telehealth). They can also refer you to an endocrinologist, if you need one.

Depending on your circumstances, we may also refer you to mental health professionals such as Monash Gender Clinic for more assessment and support before you start hormone therapy.

What to bring

When you come to hospital for your appointment, you need to bring:

• Medicare card
• Health care card/concession card (if applicable)
• Private health insurance details (if applicable/if you want to use it)
• Adverse drug alert card (if you have one)
• X-ray films, scans, ultrasounds or any other test results or reports
• Medicines you need to take while you are here
• List of medicines you are currently taking (or the boxes) including herbal supplements and vitamins
• Glasses, hearing aid, walking frame (if applicable)
• Your blood glucose meter and log book (if applicable)

  We care for and treat people who have diseases of the endocrine glands, such as diabetes, osteoporosis and thyroid conditions.

• Bone mineral density scans

  We perform scans to see how strong your bones are.

Referrals

You can refer yourself to the Gender Clinic. Health professionals can also refer a patient.

To make a referral, fill in the form on the Your Community Health website.

Your Community Health manage referrals for our consortium and will send referrals on to us.
