Cardiorespiratory Acute Skills in Hospitals (CRASH)

  • Would you like to improve your acute cardiorespiratory skills in clinical reasoning, treatment and recognition of the deteriorating patient?
  • Are you preparing to work acute weekends or want to build your confidence further?

The CRASH Course is designed for physiotherapists working in the acute hospital ward setting to develop cardiorespiratory skills.  It is not an ICU course.

Who should attend?

Registered physiotherapists who are new graduates or new to the field of cardiorespiratory.

About the program

The program involves both theroretical and practical components. 

Theoretical component

This involves a comprehensive self-learning package delivered in an interactive multi-media online format. The content is essential preparation for the practical component.

Participants should allow at least 12 hours to complete the self-learning package.

Practical component

This includes:

  • face to face attendance at a full day program including case studies, demonstrations and skill development sessions that focus on the following areas:
  • post surgical patients
  • rib #s
  • recognition of deterioration in the above patient populations
  • airway clearance for weekend list patients
  • tracheostomy assessment, suction
  • CPAP
