About us
The Vascular Laboratory performs ultrasound tests. These use sound waves to create a picture of your arteries and veins, so that we can see how your blood is flowing.
Our tests do not use radiation and will not cause you any harm.
Ultrasound tests help your doctor diagnose of a wide range of diseases and conditions, and plan your surgery.
Our services
Our tests include:
- Scans of the blood vessels in your arms and legs
- Ultrasound scans of the arteries that supply blood to your brain
- Scans of your aorta or of the iliac vessels in your pelvis
- Scans to look at the blood supply to or within a particular organ
- Scans to help us plan for surgery of your veins and arteries (such as surgery to put in a fistula before you start dialysis)
- A test to compare the blood pressure in your ankle with the blood pressure in your arm (an ankle brachial index test)
Please note that we are unable to image the vessels inside your brain or your thoracic aorta (the blood vessel running through your chest that carries blood away from the heart).
