Our services

We provide the following services:

• Cultural, social and emotional support
• Speaking to your health care team for you and your family to support your needs
• Ensuring you and your family have information that you understand about our services and medical care
• Connecting you and your family to community services that are respectful of your cultural needs
• Access to Austin Health's Closing the Gap pharmaceutical program

We also provide cultural advice and support to our staff.

Caring for Community during COVID-19

Some Aboriginal people can get very sick if they get COVID-19.

We encourage you to get tested if you're worried or have symptoms.

Use our screening tool or call our coronavirus hotline on 03 9496 6606 (8am-8pm, 7 days a week) before coming in.

Only come straight to hospital in a medical emergency. In a medical emergency, call 000 for an ambulance.

Please let our staff know if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

Discounted medication

You may get some discounts on medications through the government Closing the Gap (CTG) scheme.

It's important to know that public hospitals are not covered by this scheme.

We have our own program, funded by the hospital.

To get lower cost medications at Austin Health you need to register for our program.

  We provide a range of social services, such as counselling support around hospitalisation, illness and disability.

• Disability liaison

  We support people with disability to use hospital services and access the care and treatment they need.

• Kidney care & dialysis

  We care for people with kidney disease and other conditions related to the kidneys.

• Hepatitis C

  We treat people with Hepatitis C and provide medication free of charge. We cure 95% of people.

• Cancer & wellness

  We provide comprehensive cancer services at the Austin Hospital, Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre, and in the community.

• Adult mental health

  We care for and treat people aged 16 to 65 with mental illness within a range of settings.

• Child & youth mental health

  We care for and treat children, young people and their families while they are experiencing psychiatric, psychological and behavioural problems.
