Human Research Ethics Committee

All research involving human participants carried out at Austin Health requires the prior approval of our Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC).

The HREC is constituted in accordance with the requirements of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

The role of the committee is to ensure that the design and conduct of any human research conforms with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research. It ensures that participants in any human research receive the respect and protection that is due to them.

The committee aims to facilitate and foster human research that is of benefit to Australian communities, whilst ensuring that any decision it makes complies with relevant Victorian and Australian laws.

Multi-site clinical trials

Austin Health participates in the national system for streamlined ethical review of multi-site clinical trials.
