Austin Health has announced the resignation of Chief Executive Officer, Sue Shilbury, who will leave the organisation in December to take up the role as Director Children, Youth and Families at Uniting, based in Sydney.
Austin Health Board Chair, the Hon Judith Troeth AM, said Ms Shilbury has made a significant contribution in her three years as CEO.
"On behalf of the Board of Austin Health, I wish to thank Sue for her service and leadership, and for her commitment and dedication to the quality of patient care we provide," Ms Troeth said.
"Sue's ability to work collaboratively with staff and the broader community have helped the organisation achieve a number of key goals over the last three years.
"These include the launch of a new strategic direction and five-year Strategic Plan for Austin Health, establishing the Austin Health Clinical Council and Clinical Executive, and strengthening the integration of our research through enhanced partnerships.
"Sue has also overseen improvements to our clinical operations to ensure an even greater emphasis is placed on a patient-first care, helped establish a new Austin Health brand that presents us as a modern, progressive health service and successfully guided the organisation through the accreditation process.
"Sue started her 30-year career in health as a Paediatric Physiotherapist and her new position will see her move onto a different challenge in the human services sphere supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable people through all ages and stages of life.
"Sue has been going through an application process for her new role for a number of months. Her decision to take up this new position is not linked in any way to recent media coverage related to Austin Health.
"We are grateful that Sue has agreed to work out beyond her notice period to help ensure a smooth transition, and she leaves Austin Health with the full confidence and support of our Board.
"We wish Sue all the best in her new role," Ms Troeth said.
Ms Shilbury's last day with Austin Health will be Friday 13 December 2019.
The Austin Health Board will begin the recruitment process for a replacement CEO over the coming weeks.
