Austin Health Animal Ethics Committee

All research performed on Austin Health campuses involving the use of animals can onyl be undertaken with approval from the Austin Health Animal Ethics Committee.

The Austin Health Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) is constituted by Austin Health with authority to approve and monitor all animal based research on Austin Health campuses. It has been established within the guidelines prepared by:

  • The National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia (NHMRC)
  • Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO)
  • Australian Research Council (ARC)
  • Australian Vice-Chancellor's Committee (AVCC)
  • Animal Welfare Victoria

The committee is guided by the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes 8th edition (2013). To view the Austin Health AEC Terms of Reference, please click here*.
