Physiotherapy

For veterans

We care for and support veterans to improve balance, mobility, muscle strength and exercise endurance.

Overview

Our physiotherapy programs for veterans are run in the Health & Rehabilitation Centre at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital.

We provide the following programs:

  • Exercise & balance sessions
  • Aquatic therapy
  • Higher level gym exercise
  • Vietnam & younger veterans gym sessions

Our programs are suitable for a range of health conditions including most musculoskeletal or respiratory conditions and can assist with improving balance, mobility, and muscle strength and exercise endurance.

All sessions and programs are coordinated and led by a qualified physiotherapist or exercise physiologist.

About the programs

Exercise & balance sessions

These sessions help you to:

  • Improve your balance
  • Improve your fitness
  • Improve specific strength deficits
  • Help reduce your risk of falls

Aquatic therapy

These sessions use the therapeutic benefit of our hydrotherapy pool.

A range of musculoskeletal conditions can be improved with exercise in the aquatic environment.

You need to obtain a specific aquatic medical clearance from your GP to access the hydrotherapy pool.

Higher level gym exercise

These sessions combine patient-specific low impact cardiovascular exercise with an exercise program to meet individual treatment goals.

The program is conducted in a well-equipped gym using:

  • Treadmills
  • Exercise bikes
  • Rowing machine
  • Pulleys and weights
  • Step machine and leg press

Vietnam & younger veterans gym sessions

These sessions enable you to do gym-based exercise depending on your medical condition.

All programs are specifically tailored to meet your individual goals and may include exercise to:

  • Improve your fitness
  • Improve muscle control and strength
  • Improve flexibility
  • Address specific musculoskeletal conditions or problem areas
