Clinical services

Patients are seen only at the request of the patient's family practitioner or referring consultant.

The Victorian Liver Transplant Unit cares for patients from Victoria, Tasmania and southern New South Wales with both acute and chronic liver disease, viral hepatitis and liver tumours. This service includes twenty-four hour “specialist" availability for recipient/donor referral, patient assessment, management pre and post operatively and ongoing management post discharge.

The types of patients the Victorian Liver Transplant Unit sees are adults or children who have:

  •      Chronic liver disease who need assessment for liver transplantation.
  •      Primary liver cancer (Hepatocellular carcinoma).
  •      Acute liver failure, for which transplantation may be necessary.
  •      Undergone liver transplantation, and are residents in Victoria & Tasmania.

For routine appointments, please write, fax or phone stating the Liver Transplant Consultant you wish your patient to see.

Most patients will be seen within six weeks of referral but if you wish your patient to be seen urgently, please contact us directly.
