About us

The University of Melbourne Department of Surgery based at Austin Health is an institution which combines the clinical practice of HPB (Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary) and Transplantation surgery, Clinical research, Biomedical research and Education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This includes the HPB and Transplantation Surgery Unit, the Victorian Liver Transplant Unit and the extensive biomedical research resources of three NHMRC supported research groups.

The department has a strong emphasis on teaching and research. An excellent Undergraduate and Postgraduate Research Higher Degrees program for both medical students including Advanced Medical Science (AMS), Master of Surgery (MS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) and for science students including Bachelor of Science or Biomedical Science Honours, MSc and PhD programs.

Our location and diverse expertise provides the ideal opportunity to achieve our long term vision of translation of basic science discoveries into clinical practice.
