Oxygen Clinic

Oxygen Clinic

We assess people to see if they need oxygen therapy at home.

What we do

The Oxygen Clinic determines whether you may benefit from home oxygen therapy.

Your doctor may request an Oxygen Clinic appointment if you are:

  • An Austin Health patient
  • A Victorian client of the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA).

Find out more about clinic times and bookings in Specialist Clinics.

What to expect

If you are an inpatient starting home oxygen therapy for the first time, we will provide you with everything you need before you leave hospital. You will be required to attend a follow-up clinic visit 4 to 6 weeks later to assess your ongoing oxygen needs.

If you are an outpatient, we will organise an oxygen clinic assessment to determine whether home oxygen is suitable for you.

If you are an existing patient of the clinic, you will have review appointments when needed.

Your appointment may be in the clinic, by telehealth or over the phone.

You are welcome to invite a family member or carer to be present to help answer any questions.

What to bring

When you come to hospital for your appointment, you need to bring:

  • Medicare card
  • Health care card/concession card (if applicable)
  • Private health insurance details (if applicable/if you want to use it)
  • Adverse drug alert card (if you have one)
  • X-ray films, scans, ultrasounds or any other test results or reports
  • Medicines you need to take while you are here
  • List of medicines you are currently taking (or the boxes) including herbal supplements and vitamins
  • Glasses, hearing aid, walking aid, etc. (as applicable)
  • All equipment that we have provided to you
