Our goal is to raise $96,000 before Easter so that we can continue to provide the very best level of care. Relying on:
George needed a liver transplant to save his life. "In April this year I had liver failure and things were going so badly they put me on the transplant list. It became a matter of saving my life. I needed it straight away."
George was lucky and a compatible donor liver was found for him. "I could only live another few weeks if I didn't get the transplant."
Lying in a hospital bed with many tubes around him gave George plenty of time to think.
"I was amazed with the technology around me, and I thought about how much money it must cost to run this. I felt that I could help, it's a public hospital, it's not for profit, it's for the community and I want to help as much as I can."
George, from his hospital bed after his life-saving liver transplant, gave a donation of $4,000.
"It was the only way, being stuck in a bed, that I could help. I could do nothing else. I felt the spirit of being part of this community and helping each other. It's not just patients - it's doctors, nurses, cleaning ladies - they work to contribute as much as they can, this is the spirit of the place."
George's donation will help to purchase additional state-of-the-art equipment, fund ground-breaking research that immediately benefits patients today and expand our unique supportive care programs so that more patients and their carers can receive the support they need.
That is the level of care and expertise we are able to provide because of heroes in our community like George and like you. Will you consider making a donation today to help others?
Your donation will make a difference, helping us do everything possible for patients like George so they can enjoy many more years with their family and friends.
"One of the nurses was there just holding my hand. That was so very important to me."
