Austin Health is committed to achieving equality in health status between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-indigenous Australians.

The Careers in Health program offers school students 15 years and over the opportunity to complete a one week work experience placement. Once completed those students who wish to continue in the program will be allocated a mentor who will support them through the remainder of their schooling and hopefully onto University/TAFE studies. These students will also have the opportunity to complete their clinical placements at Austin Health and will be provided with assistance during applications for graduate employment.

The first work experience placement begins the week starting Monday 19 September 2016. The students will have the opportunity to spend time in the following areas:

  • Emergency Department
  • Inpatient wards
  • Ambulatory Care Centre
  • Specialist Clinics
  • Health and Rehabilitation Centre
  • Simulation Centre

For university and TAFE students: clinical placements

Aboriginal students studying any health related course are invited to be part of the program. Students will have the opportunity to complete clinical placements at the hospital and will be provided with assistance and a guaranteed interview when applying for graduate positions.
