Expedited ethical review

Expedited ethical review process

There is an expedited ethical review process for quality assurance projects or research studies that involve minimal or no risk to the study population. Studies must meet strict criteria to be eligible for review by this process, it is electronically based and review takes approximately four weeks.

New requirement for submission from 1 January 2010:

Use the enclosed guidelines and application package to determine that your study fits within the expedited ethical review process. If it does, please complete the application package and together with a completed NEAF form and a copy of your protocol and any other required documents and  send to ethics@austin.org.au

The use of the NEAF  requires the Victorian State-Specific Documents

All submissions carry a fee. If you are an Austin Health employee, you can pay by a journal transfer from your department. If you are not an Austin Health employee you must pay upfront by cheque.  If a tax invoice is required, this can be requested.

Annual and Final reports

An annual report is required at the end of the first 12-month period and then yearly. At completion a final report is required. Should the study complete within the first 12-month period, only a final report is required.
